Air conditioning makes our warm and humid summers here in the Monroe, North Carolina, area a lot more pleasant. Newer developments in the HVAC world like ductless AC systems can add even more comfort to your home with zones that allow for personalization and increased efficiency.

Ductless mini-split systems are made up of a condenser and up to eight separate air handlers. The number of air handlers depends on the size and layout of your home. Since a ductless mini-split system is not connected by ducts, different areas of the home can have temperatures set according to comfort preferences in each zone. Here is a look at what a ductless AC system can do for your home.

Zone System

With a ductless AC system, your home air conditioner is free of the constraint of having one temperature set throughout the home. Different rooms or areas in the home, known as zones, each have their own air handler installed. The air handlers can be individually programmed to meet the temperature needs of that particular area. This allows individuals to customize their temperature in each bedroom, home office, or living space where they’re spending time. Lesser-used rooms can be set to a warmer temperature that’s more cost-effective.

Ductless Efficiency

Ductwork can become dirty over time, and buildup within the ducts can decrease air conditioner efficiency. In addition, ducts can often have gaps due to improper installation or wear and tear. These gaps allow cooled air to escape. This, in turn, forces the air conditioner to work harder to compensate for the cooled air that is being lost. For these reasons, you could be incurring extra energy costs, which may make you want to run the air conditioner less so that you can save some money. This may result in a home temperature that is warmer than your ideal comfortable temperature would be.
